On Saturday, June 8, the Wood River Trails Coalition hosted a trail maintenance event on the Forbidden Fruit Trail in Adams Gulch. The volunteers removed trees that had fallen across the trail, brushed back plants that were encroaching on the travel way, and they removed tons of gravel and loose rock off of the tread.
The Wood River Bike Coalition was founded in 2011. In 2019 the group renamed itself the Wood River Trails Coalition. This renaming, and a refocused mission, were instituted to better facilitate the work they do maintaining and improving cycling, hiking, and riding opportunities in the Wood River Valley. Since its inception the group has worked on trails and it has made tremendous contributions to our community. Now they are clearly focused as a stewardship organization for the interests of all users.
Taking a broader perspective about who they serve, the WRTC wants us all working together on the maintenance and improvement of our trails. Our trails are great, but they need continual upkeep to keep them that way. It’s important for our community to come together in support of the trails. That’s what the coalition is doing; working to help us all pull together on the same rope, in the same direction.
The WRTC is hosting a number of events that will benefit the trails this week. A run-down can be found below. Come out and lend a hand on a volunteer project, or join the group as a member; to do your part to preserve and improve our trail experiences.
