Volunteers play a big part in keeping the trails in good shape.

Evening volunteer trail work sessions are scheduled to kick-off the second Thursday of this month, May 14. For the first event we will be meeting at the Croy Creek Trailhead, 3.5 miles west of Hailey off of Croy Canyon Road. The work events will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following Thursdays:

May 14 & 28

June 11 & 18

July 2, 16 & 30

August 6 & 20

Our sessions in May and June will focus on supporting the reconstruction of the BLM Croy Trail Network. Burned in the Beaver Creek Fire, the trails will be rebuilt with machinery operated by trail construction professionals with the International Mountain Bicycling Association. Volunteers will be doing hand work in support of those efforts.

Instruction will be be provided regarding safety and the tasks at hand. The work will include the raking out of rocks from the trail, dispersal of soils, rocks and plants disturbed in the construction process, and other “finish” tasks associated with the project.

Volunteers should come with eye-protection, work gloves, and footwear that offers protection in the event of a misplaced tool strike. It is recommended that volunteers wear work boots, long pants, long sleeved shirts, a hat and sunscreen. Carry drinking water and a snack. No dogs please; swinging tools and playful pups don’t mix well.

We will supply tools, but if you have one to bring, please do so. Its always nice to have extras on hand should we have a bigger than expected turn out. Useful tools include loppers and hand-pruners, steel garden rakes/bow rakes, flat shovels, mattocks or other digging and grubbing tools.

If you have questions or want additional information you can write, text, or call Chris Leman, BCRD Wood River Valley Trail Coordinator. His contact info is: cleman@bcrd.org or (208) 720-7713.

Please stay tuned for updates about the progress that is being made, and for information about where to meet for later volunteer sessions. We are looking forward to seeing you out on the trails with us on Thursday!
